Catch Me If You Can title sequence
This opening sequence is very much in the style of Saul Basses work. This title sequence is all illustrated and formed by cut outs, throughout the whole sequence. The credits are illustrated by animation on the computer. This sequence is more graphically advanced thanks to the modern technology. The music is up-beat, classical and indicates that there is going to be a chase in the film.
The whole sequence is created by cut outs and illustrations. There are straight lines going across the screen, crossing ache other and combined with credits, they symbolize fractured mental health and an unstable mind of a human being. The music in this sequence is unsettling, makes the audience uncomfortable and most of all it’s up beat and creepy.
The theme of the whole film is about mental health issues and unstable mind of humans. The whole mood is quite dark.

The man with the golden arm
The first thing we see in this title sequence are white lines coming onto the screen from the top of the screen. There are supposed to symbolize lines of coke, or needle injections. Which is very on topic of the film since the film is about a drug addict.
The mood is set by the music which is jazz music from the !950s, the black background and the white illustrations. The mood is quite dark and we can see that the film is about a serious topic before it even starts and that there will be drugs involved. The themes in this opening title sequence are drugs, maybe depression or just darkness in life and death.
The white lines keep changing and then names of the cast come up on the screen. At one point the needles come together and form a (crocked) illustrated hand. The hand fades away and we get a description text that we have just watched the movie’s title stills collection.
