3 ways to develop ideas

 METHOD NUMBER 1:

'steal like an artist'

Austin Kleon

-acknowledge that there is no true original idea anymore.
-make a list of artistic influences.

LIST:
Harry Potter
The Hobbit/Lord of the rings
Greek mythology
James Bond
Money Heist
Friends
The Famous five (books)
Gotham
The Holiday
Crime documentaries
Clueless

WHY?

Harry Potter
- The world of Magic, the line between good and bad. The themes, mood and settings speak out to me a lot. When I watch Harry Potter films it makes me feel relaxed and calm.

The Hobbit/Lord of the rings
- The fantasy creatures, also the beatiful nature locations and the fictional castles and the visible difference between good and bad.

Greek mythology
- I was always very fascinated by greet mythology from a very young age. I found it very interesting all the ancient stories about Gods and mythical creatures. I would start reading children's greek mythology books from the age of 6.

James Bond
- The criminal action/attraction to the main character. The love story in between all the violence happening in the film.

Money Heist
-The amount of thought that has been put into this film is incredible. all the details in the house. It is raw, authentic and unexpected. Themes: love, money, pride, family, heist, violence, betrail, conning, authentic.

Friends
-The idea of a close friendship group living together/close to ache other and showing the audience 10 years of their relationships between them. Friends has also influenced my fashion styles. Themes: New York, love, relationships, humour, friendships.

The Famous five (books)
-I grew up on these books from a young age.
-the theme of friendship and adventures is the most important in these books for me.

Gotham
-The location, social fractions and ranking. The difference in society and themes like: relationships, love, protection of people and loved ones, crime, criminals.

The Holiday
-This film makes me feel happy and makes me feel relaxed.
-Always when I'm in a bad mood or sad I watch it.
-it is cringe, but idyllic and the ending is so perfect (still slightly opened)
-Themes: love, heart break, long distance relationships,

METHOD NUMBER 2:

'The question game' WHAT IF?

What if a dear had a sharks tail?
What if Harry Potter was a girl named Harriet Potter?
What if  The Hobbits were actually evil in secret?
What if Greek gods pretended to be superior to humans but in real life they were actual ordinary people?
What if James Bond fell in love with the villain ?
What Money Heist was organised by the state government and it was all planned out and no one was actually stopping the heist, it is just a cover up?
What if Rachels baby Emma is actually Joes baby and she is keeping it a secret?
What if Gotham is a social experiment in real life. and scientists analyse what happens the city.
What if Amanda married Graham and Graham gets cancer?

Catch Me If You Can title sequence

Catch Me If You Can title sequence

This opening sequence is very much in the style of Saul Basses work. This title sequence is all illustrated and formed by cut outs, throughout the whole sequence. The credits are illustrated by animation on the computer. This sequence is more graphically advanced thanks to the modern technology. The music is up-beat, classical and indicates that there is going to be a chase in the film.

psycho-title sequence

Psycho- title sequence

The whole sequence is created by cut outs and illustrations. There are straight lines going across the screen, crossing ache other and combined with credits, they symbolize fractured mental health and an unstable mind of a human being. The music in this sequence is unsettling, makes the audience uncomfortable and most of all it’s up beat and creepy.

The theme of the whole film is about mental health issues and unstable mind of humans. The whole mood is quite dark.

Developing ideas: News + Netflix

 -vaccines

safety?

long term?

I don't think that the corona vaccine is safe and that the government is  explaining enough what it contains and what it will actually cause.

-dystopian (broken view of the future)

-horror - zombies, death

-someone who wants to take the vaccine and someone who doesn't --> the effects on their life this had and the different life choices for them.

-Romance: everyone dies from the vaccine and only two people (couple) survive and try to stay alive alone.

-Thriller: two parties in society (anti/pro), the fraction groups against the vaccine protest, stand up to the vaccinators.

-government control of society

BBC - idea story from article

Nigerian police make arrests in 'baby factory'

From the POV of: baby (where do they go), international network, girls (mums), bosses, journalist (hero),

Namibia auctioning 170 elephants over drought

NETFLIX
-tell me who I am
-three identical strangers
-documentaries

Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy rich
- from the POV of the girls (victims), abusers, workers (the viewers),

My film would be from Jeffrey Epstein pov. So the audience would get a glimpse into his messed up mind and see the horrors he put young girls through. And how he thought through a a plan to not get caught and get away with his crimes. How did he decide who to let into his secret society. and then the island and arrest process. and his death in prison.

The opening scene would be off him travelling to see a victim or a victim seeing him.

The man with the golden arm

The man with the golden arm

The first thing we see in this title sequence are white lines coming onto the screen from the top of the screen. There are supposed to symbolize lines of coke, or needle injections. Which is very on topic of the film since the film is about a drug addict.

The mood is set by the music which is jazz music from the !950s, the black background and the white illustrations. The mood is quite dark and we can see that the film is about a serious topic before it even starts and that there will be drugs involved. The themes in this opening title sequence are drugs, maybe depression or just darkness in life and death.

The white lines keep changing and then names of the cast come up on the screen. At one point the needles come together and form a (crocked) illustrated hand. The hand fades away and we get a description text that we have just watched the movie’s title stills collection.

POSTER for film

This film poster would be used to promote the finished product. I created this entire poster myself. I am the author of the photograph and ...
